La Cina è vicina ma non in auto.

[it]Da tempo sto personalmente affondando sull’ottenimento di una qualsiasi informazione in merito: posso o non posso entrare in Cina con la mia automobile e guidare allegro in giro?

Le informazioni si contraddicono talmente tanto che l’unico modo penso sia presentarsi alla frontiera tra Pakistan e Cina, sulla Karakoam Highway a 5000 metri d’altezza….e chiedere.

Tutti i siti che si trovano digitando cose come “self drive in China” o similari, portano direttamente a siti di agenzie o tour operator, che ti dicono che è impossibile entrare senza una guida e senza mezza tonnellata di permessi.

Tuttavia il sito dell’Amministrazione di Beijin riporta invece una notizia, di cui ho trovato altri spunti in rete, che dice che non è vero, almeno da Gennaio del 2007, e che è invece possibile ottenere targhe temporanee e patente cinese temporanea in 2 o 3 giorni alla prima città dopo la frontiera. E spiega anche la procedura da seguire in dogana.

Inoltre le agenzie di autonoleggio nelle principali città offrono il servizio di rilascio della patente temporanea che permette ad un turista di muoversi liberamente, Tibet escluso. Quindi qualcosa deve pur essere vero.

Solo che nessuno prevede il caso di un turista che si presenta alla frontiera e deve entrare, ma danno sempre per scontato che si arrivi in aereo.

Queste informazioni non sono verificabili, visto che ambasciata e consolato non sanno nulla e si mettono quasi a ridere quando sostieni di voler arrivare laggiù con la tua auto. Secondo l’ACI ed un contatto in Cina, le informazioni che ho trovato sono quelle che descrivono correttamente la situazione.

Penso che il business dei viaggi organizzati sia enorme e che quindi ci sia un puro interesse commerciale dietro a queste notizie.

L’unica cosa che posso fare è stampare tutto e portare i fogli con me.

Vi faremo sapere. Nel caso, rimarremo tra Pakistan e Cina, al freddo, a guardare le montagne per un pò….

[en]I spent ages surfing here and there on the web to get some quite important pieces of info, about the possibility to drive my car in China without expensive guides on really expensive Land Rover following you. And the infos i got are so inconsistent that i think the only way to check is to climb the Karakoram Highway linking Pakistan and China at 5000mt above the sea…and ask someone.

All the websites you get google-ing things like “self drive in China” or similar, sing the same song: u cannot self drive unless u buy a 7.000$ tourist package from the company managing the site itself.

Anyway i got another very important info on the Beijing Automobile Bureau, and some more related to this in other travel blogs and China official Gov sites, saying that from January 2007 on it’s possible for foreigners to have a temporary driving license and car plates straight after the border, in the first city you hit.

More, the biggest car rentals offers the temporary driving license issue service, so that a tourist can rent his own car and drive around, except in the Tibet region.

The only issue is that nobody plans for a tourist to hit the border on his OWN CAR. Meaning: already driving…

It’s impossible to double check all this stuff, as nobody can help at the embassy in Rome or at the consulate in Milan. Anyway, following infos coming from the Automobile Club of Italy and another friend of mine living there, it’s possible to enter and drive without a guide with your own car. Tibet is another story anyway…

So i will print all the pages and bring them with me, and I’ll let you know.

Just in case, be prepared to bring us some hot tea and chocolate biscuits, at 5000mt above sea level, between Pakistan and China, waiting for the paperwork to be done…or simply being refused and taking some pics of the huge landscape….
